How We Work Together: Elevating Member Expertise, Advancing Our Mission
At last week’s membership meeting, ATSA President Ainslie Heasman spoke about something central to our strength as an organization: the ways we work together. Across all areas of ATSA, meaningful progress happens when our members—the subject matter experts—partner with staff—the nonprofit professionals—to drive strategy, share knowledge, and get things done.
ATSA’s collaborative structure offers three key ways for members to engage:
Standing Committees
These strategic, ongoing groups provide guidance on core priorities and are co-led by a Committee Chair and staff liaison. Members offer subject matter expertise; staff bring nonprofit infrastructure and operational support. Together, they create long-term impact.
ATSA’s current Standing Committees include:
- Research Committee
- Ethics Committee
- Executive Committee
- Education & Conference Committee
Communities of Practice
Open, interest-driven spaces for professional connection and shared learning. These groups are supported by staff and volunteer leaders, and blend structured dialogue with open discussion. They are an ideal way to stay current, spark innovation, and build relationships across roles and geographies. Learn more or join an active Community of Practice:
Project Workgroups
Formed to complete a defined project within a set timeline, these groups bring together the right voices to develop practical tools, recommendations, or other outcomes. Once the work is complete, the group disbands—but the impact remains.ATSA thrives when members and staff collaborate—members shape the content, and staff help bring it to life.
Whether you're interested in shaping policy, building community, or developing resources, there’s a place for you at ATSA.
