Youth Sexual Offence Assessment and Treatment Clinician

As a member of the Clinical Services Team, with oversight provided by the Sexual Offence Assessment and Treatment Specialist, the incumbent is responsible for assessing and treating youth who have committed sexual offences and their families. This position also provides consultation on matters related to youth sexual offences.  The ultimate purpose of the program is to significantly reduce the incidence of sexual victimization in the Province of Prince Edward Island.


Duties will include but are not limited to:
  • Conducting assessments with clients and their family members;
  • Conducting individual treatment, as well as meeting with family members and/or caregivers in order to develop safety plans and support the youth;
  • Providing family counselling to address family specific risk factors;
  • Ongoing revision and development of adolescent treatment programs;
  • Facilitating group programming that is based on best practice utilizing psychoeducational and cognitive behavioural therapy techniques;
  • Providing presentations to Department employees and training regarding assessment and treatment for adolescent who commit sexual offences; and
  • Other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Social Work or Psychology from an accredited school, as well as extensive experience working in a clinical setting.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working with high-risk clients.
  • Working knowledge of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, Mental Health Act, Child Protection Act, Victims of Family Violence Act.
  • Ability to manage crisis situations as well as de-escalate high risk situations.
  • Knowledge & experience in program development and evaluation.
  • Training in needs identification and programming in areas such as sexual abuse, family dynamics, family violence, trauma, emotion regulation, risk management.
  • Training & experience in group facilitation.
  • Must have very good communication skills both orally and written.
  • Must provide satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Background Check.

Annual Salary Range: $74,822 - $93,561
